ABOUT ME
My name is Luke Smith, and I am a 22-year-old, soon to be, Media, Industry & Innovation graduate. My love for the subject area came when I had to make a quick decision about what 4th A-level I wanted to take on in 6th form and decided on Creative Media Production at the last minute just to ‘Fill the gap’. Little did I know I’d fall in love with it and want to pursue it as a career after it being my strongest grade.
Over my 3 years studying the subject it’s grown my interest in more niche areas. For example I took an instant liking to digital and social media marketing which was impacted by some of my first and second year modules. For example in first year, Understanding Audiences was a module that for me, gave me a real insight in what it is people want to see when searching the internet and essentially being part of an online community. In second year I studied ‘Brands & Branding’ which gave me in depth knowledge on how the face of a product should be presented to the public, as a result of the needs of the company.
As for my Live Project, it’s been an incredibly exciting and interesting journey that I hope to build on even after it is finished and further into the future. At the start of the project I changed and altered my idea tremendously. I took a great interest in my final year, to talent management. Specifically with music artists (off the back of my love for the UK music scene), I wanted to explore the field of Talent Management on a larger scale as not much research has been done into this up until now. Should things not work out with my new idea and emerging business off the back of it, then I absolutely intend to develop my knowledge and eventually work in the Talent Management space in the future.
My new idea has been incredibly exciting for me. As I personally struggled financially during my time at university, exploring the funding system and gathering opinions from my university peers, about their experiences with Student Finance and they’re funding during their time at university, has been vastly interesting for me. I hope as a result of gaining this knowledge and information, that I can look to adapt and launch a business, Student Raffle UK which will hope to shift some of the burden of the cost of expensive equipment away from the Student. By offering cheap tickets that students would spend on a drink from their SU, and offering a low amount of tickets on each item, I hope this will encourage students to try and get their hands on technology that will help them succeed in their studies!
